Chartwell’s company vision is to Make People’s Lives BETTER, but that aim does not only extend to the lives of our residents and their family members, but to all people living in our local communities.
Staff at Chartwell Waterford Retirement Residence recently demonstrated their dedication to our vision by throwing a Random Acts of Kindness event. In an effort to build a kinder world, they decided on a creative—and delicious!— approach the event, meant to thank everyone at the residence and community partners for their continued support and generosity. So what made it so special?
“Our Food Service team got ambitious and created a mouth-watering 100-foot-long submarine sandwich!” laughs Stephanie Wright, Retirement Living Consultant at Chartwell Waterford. “Our Chef, Stephen, partnered with Fresh Start Foods for the project. They kindly donated all of the produce for our gigantic sub, which we so appreciated as we pride ourselves on preparing food that is both tasty and fresh. It was a great way to make Chartwell Waterford’s creation extra appetizing.”
The impressive sandwich, which spanned an entire hallway in the residence, was an enticing sight to behold, and was constructed with the help of many willing Chartwell staff members who couldn’t wait to taste it. Needless to say, the submarine garnered a lot of positive attention within the residence, but also with several Oakville community members who couldn’t resist stopping by for a bite to eat!
“There was a lot of sub to go around,” jokes Stephanie. “Helen, our Lifestyle and Program Manager, had the brilliant idea to deliver the remaining pieces of the sandwich to local first responders. She headed out alongside one of our residents, Elda, to make the special delivery. We really wanted to show our appreciation for what they do on a daily basis.”
“I really think the event was a huge success!” Stephanie beams. “It’s all thanks to the hard work of our wonderful team here at Chartwell Waterford. I can’t wait to see what we come up with next.”
